2019 Porsche 718 Cayman Model Review
The 2019 Porsche 718 Cayman in Ann Arbor, MI
The 2019 Porsche 718 Cayman is exactly what enthusiasts want out of a luxury sports car — high-level performance, sophisticated interior and first-rate reliability. The 718 Cayman is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 300 horsepower while the Cayman S features a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 350 horsepower. True to their sportscar pedigree, both engines are mated either to a 6-speed manual transmissions or Porsche’s lightning-quick PDK automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
The cabin matches the standards of its performance with premium materials and the outstanding Porsche craftsmanship. With the combination of performance, quality and pricing, the 2019 Porsche 718 Cayman is one of the smartest purchases you can make if you’re in the market for a luxury sports car.
Porsche. There is no substitute.
First and foremost, the Porsche 718 Cayman and Cayman S boast a significant 550-pound weight advantage over the much-heavier AMG SLC 43. Less unsprung weight allows the 718 Cayman to use its nimble agility to outperform the Mercedes-Benz through tight corners on the race track. Both models also have a much higher top speed than the AMG SLC 43. 718 Cayman S models can also outsprint the Mercedes-Benz from 0 to 60.
We optioned the 718 Cayman models with a Premium Package consisting of 14-way Power Heated and Ventilated Seats, Automatically Dimming Mirrors with Integrated Rain Sensor, 2-zone Automatic Climate Control and much more. We also added some necessary center-stack options like Navigation, an upgraded BoseⓇ Audio System, and Connect Plus which adds a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay™ complete with Google Earth Navigation, real-time traffic info, and access to your phone’s apps. You’ll be forced to shell out additional cash at Mercedes-Benz to receive similar features.
Porsche 718 Cayman comparison
When you’re in the market for a luxury two-seat sportscar, the last thing you’re looking for is a “base model” without options. So although it would be easy to say that in it’s “base” configuration, the Cayman holds a price advantage over the Mercedes-Benz AMG SLC43, we went the more likely route of optioning each of the cars below with 14-way Power Heated and Ventilated Seats, Automatically Dimming Mirrors with Integrated Rain Sensor, and 2-zone Automatic Climate Control as well as some necessary center-stack options like Navigation, an upgraded Audio System, and Apple CarPlay™. Spoiler Alert – the 2019 Porsche 718 Cayman is still less expensive after a full list of options as you can see in the chart below.
