About the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

The last major shakeup of the 911 drivetrain came when water-cooled engines were introduced. The result was that Porsche was able to get higher power outputs from the new engines, and water cooling is something that we’ve all since embraced. Now we’re seeing a new shakeup, the first hybrid 911. The system is built for performance, rather than efficiency, and it brings more peak power and quicker acceleration to the already incredibly impressive 911. It comes with a very noticeable power advantage over the base Carrera, and shaves an entire second off of the 0-60 time. A lot more comes standard too, including go-fast options like the Sport Chrono Package and Sport Suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). And all from a car that is still a 911 in every way.

What the Critics Say

“The car rocketed out of corners with instantaneous throttle response—no surprise at high rpm—and displayed very powerful brakes and tremendous grip. We hit an indicated 155 mph on the longest straight of roughly 2200 feet.” — Car & Driver

“The new 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid is an engineering masterclass for a variety of reasons, but I’ll tell you the most important one: if I didn’t tell you it was a hybrid, if the (easily removable) sticker on the door didn’t say so, you wouldn’t know. I’ll say that again, and I mean it: You wouldn’t know.” — Road & Track

What’s New for 2025

The obvious change for 2025 is the new T-Hybrid drivetrain, which makes the new Carrera GTS quite a bit quicker than its predecessor. But there have been other important changes as well. You might notice the reworked front fascia, where Porsche equipped the 911 with HD-Matrix Design Headlights, which also incorporate the turn signals and daytime running lights. As such, Porsche has done away with the lower front lighting in favor of active aerodynamic fins. Inside, you’ll find a fully digital instrument cluster, another first for the 911.

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Engine

Advanced Hybrid Drivetrain

The T Hybrid system in the Carrara GTS is different from any other hybrid system you’ve seen before, including hybrid systems in other sports cars. There is no all-electric mode, or eAWD. There are two ways in which the hybrid system makes extra power. One is close to what you’d expect, an electric motor that compliments the gasoline engine. This is located between the engine and the PDK transmission, so most of the drivetrain is the same as in non-hybrid models, making it simpler and therefore lighter. The other major component of the system is the turbocharger, which is electrically assisted to eliminate lag. It also has no wastegate, and heat is scavenged to replenish the battery. The result of all of this is that the Carrera GTS has more power and a broader power band, but in ways that don’t make it obvious, or even apparent, that it’s a hybrid.

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS performance

Incredible Performance

The T Hybrid drivetrain is certainly advanced, but the most exciting part isn’t the technology, it’s how it drives. The Carrera GTS produces 532 horsepower and 449 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds. The system also doesn’t add much weight, since it’s relatively simple, and allowed Porsche to eliminate some other components, like the starter motor. That means the legendary 911 handling is still very much at work, and the Carrera GTS comes with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, in the form of the Carrera 4 GTS. In both cases, it rides 10mm lower than the base Carrera, thanks to the sport suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which also helps even further with the impressive handling. Rear-axle steering is standard with the Carrera GTS too, making incredibly tight cornering possible. The Sport Chrono Package is also standard, and the launch control that comes standard with that is part of the reason why the Carrera GTS will hit 60 mph so quickly.

Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Interior

Impressive Customization

Porsche makes vehicles with unparalleled performance, there’s a reason why the 911 completely dominates the privateer racing world. But sometimes you want a car that looks and feels as unique as it handles, and Porsche has an answer for that too. The customization options for the Carrera GTS, and the 911 in general, far exceed anything you’ll find on a competitor. Paint color options are as close to infinite as you’ll ever get, thanks to the Paint to Sample option. The Carrera GTS comes with 20″/21″ wheels with a unique design, but Carrera S or RS Spyder wheels are no-cost options. Similarly, a back seat isn’t standard, but adding one doesn’t add anything to the price. The interior color options are extensive, and the Exclusive Manufaktur program adds an incredible list of extra options. And as satisfying as the sound of the engine is, when you want to listen to some music, there are high-end stereo options from Bose® or Burmester®.
