Redefine Your Drive: Porsche InnoDrive Predictive Tech Mastery

Adaptive cruise control has reached the point of widespread adoption, and is now offered on most vehicles being sold new in the US today. Porsche has offered such a system for years, but with Porsche InnoDrive, the capabilities of this system are greatly enhanced. It gives a boost to safety, fuel economy, and even the ride experience itself. It’s worth a closer look.

What Is Porsche InnoDrive?
Adaptive cruise control systems will adjust your speed if you get close to a slower-moving vehicle in front of you. This is an effective safety measure, but it also frees the driver from having to constantly adjust the cruise control settings, and therefore makes for a more relaxing trip. InnoDrive takes it further by looking up to 1.8 miles ahead on your route and taking elevation changes, curves, and speed limit changes into account, allowing the vehicle to anticipate changes instead of just reacting to them. The vehicle will know when to adjust transmission shift points and throttle positions ahead of time in order to best maintain a smooth and consistent experience. For example, it will slow down going into a turn and accelerate leaving it, or start to accelerate at the bottom of a hill just before the incline starts to slow you down.

What Makes InnoDrive Unique?
There are other cruise control systems on the market that use GPS data to anticipate changing road conditions. They might not be as sophisticated as InnoDrive, but the idea is still similar. There are a couple more details that set InnoDrive apart even more. The first is that putting your vehicle into Sport mode will change the character of your InnoDrive experience, making for more aggressive throttle adjustments, and even perfectly timing the acceleration just as you exit the apex of a turn. Traffic Jam Assist, which works at speeds under 37 mph, is also more sophisticated with InnoDrive. Like other systems, Porsche Traffic Jam Assist will maintain an appropriate distance behind the vehicle in front of you, but here it will also use gentle steering inputs to keep you centered in the lane. In all, InnoDrive provides a much more comprehensive and relaxing experience behind the wheel than what competing systems offer.
